Wedding Photography: How to Become a Successful...
Once in while I receive e-mails or phone calls from aspiring or beginner wedding photographers asking me for advise on how to become successful in the wedding field. My first question is always what their motivation is to become a wedding photographer. Some will reply that they heard from somebody that it is easy money, or that they got a cool camera that takes great photos or that they would like to make some money on the side etc. While it is true that wedding photography can be a very profitable business achieving success in the wedding industry is not just a matter of getting a camera and start shooting. Wedding photography involves artistic talent, human sense, complete mastery of photographic...
Camera 500D
I am about to attempt a DSLR course so guess what.... I needed a camera. My old Canon digital compact didn't cut it! This camera exceeds my expectations. It is easy to set up & use. My wife is an avid user of the point & click function & I use the rest. The 15m pixels & added ability to video in HD made the difference in selecting this camera over the Nikon equiv with the swivel screen (it was a close race). I am over the moon with this purchase, but unfortunatly I have become very snap happy! I recommend you buy protective film for the camera display & a cheap UV filter to protect your expensive lens. I bought an 8gb HD-SD card & then had to get a USB adaptor as my old laptop SD card reader was not...

Comparing the Nikon D3000 to a Canon 500D
Nikon and Canon have always been competitors in the digital imaging race for the longest time and once again, these imaging giants have come up again with their latest entry-level offerings through Canon's EOS 500D and Nikon's D3000. These cameras are mainly targeted at consumers who are ready to switch from their compact digital cameras to a DSLR. Canon's latest entry-level model, EOS 500D has 15.1 megapixel imaging resolution using its APS-C sized CMOS sensor proves to be outstanding in low light and produces images with incredibly low noise. Nikon's D3000 starts with a conservative 10.2 megapixel but with its CCD sensor gives very good results at ISO 800. At low light shoots, the D3000 can still...

Camera 500D - A Wonderfully Full-Featured...
I've had the Camera 500D for about almost week now and after some extensive use, here are my thoughts: 1. 15.1 megapixel sensor. Yes, the high megapixel count is impressive, but keep in mind that, as you approach higher resolutions, you need to ensure the lens on the SLR can resolve that much detail. Sadly, the included 18-55mm IS lens is functional, but the high resolution really shows the so-so quality of the lens. Even if taken at the proper focus, pictures can appear soft with this kit lens. Shots I have taken with Canon EF-S 17-85mm and EF 70-200mm L lenses are crisp. I don't have any gripes on image quality. There are some issues with noise on the higher ISOs that don't seem to show up on the...
How to Make a Time-Lapse Video With Your...
Getting the most out of your digital video camera can mean being able to create some really cool stuff. You just have to step outside the manual a bit and find the cool things you can do with your digital video camera and your editing software. We have all seen them in a movie or a TV show, those very cool shots where they speed up time and capture a long segment of time and condense it into a very short amount of video. My very favorite example of this technique was an arty movie of many years ago that was called Koyaanisqatsi. (view trailer) In that movie they had some very interesting segments where they did time lapse effects to show driving on a bridge, flowers growing, clouds flying by and so...

I had been planning to upgrade my Olympus SP-510 to a newer point-and-shoot, but when prodded by my wife to get a "really good" camera I upgraded to the Camera 500D instead. It was, of course, a considerable increase in price ($350 to $700, body only), but seems well worth the cost. Along with the camera I also bought the Canon 18-200mm lens because I did not want to be constantly changing lenses. My overall impression in the last 6 weeks has been very positive. The photos are full of deep, rich colors, the images are clear and do not seem to have much distortion. I find I can take pictures at ISO 800 without any really noticeable noise and, when needed, even at 1600. The camera has a rich feature...
How To Create A Pan Photo
In photography, there are many ways to create different effects in taking pictures. Although the beginner may not realize it, your camera can create many visually amazing effects without even using any filters! One such effect is the photographic pan. This effect is used for objects that are in motion and moving in a straight line. The result of a photo that uses the pan technique is a subject that is in focus and visible while the background is blurred and has streaks of blurriness showing motion. Pan photos are created by panning the camera! Simple right? Yes! But it's not that simple. To become really good at pan photos you must practice it thoroughly and get used to it. Your first pan...

Arlyn DeCicco Turns Tragedy Into Triumph
A Little About Arlyn Arlyn DeCicco was born on May 2nd, 1954 to William D. and Toby B. Lampie. Despite the fact that she lost her dad from complications after surgery in 1984 and her mom to cancer in 1997, her parents left a strong imprint. Arlyn learned her work ethic, determination and dedication from her parents and often refers to her mother's favorite quote, "you can do anything you want to do as well as any man if not better." Horses entered Arlyn's life when she was nine years old. "Hennie Bordwin, one of my mother's friends, took me to Pepperell, MA where I got to ride a friend's pony. I was hooked." "After I started riding, my brother Mark began to ride. Eventually, he discovered cars and...
How to Get Your Photography Noticed, Gain...
The Questions When a reader wrote, "Recently I have taken an interest in photography and am taking a photography class at a local community college." She then asked, "How do I get my artwork noticed by someone who can do something about it?" Although photography is not my principal occupation, I do use it almost daily as a supplement to my university English EFL teaching and writing. I'd suggest trying these approaches to help get your photography "out there". If your work is not on display it can't get noticed by those who may be in a position to allow you to benefit from your skills, insight and vision. Five Viable Approaches 1. First, try to get your work up on the web. Use your own website or a...
How Much Money do Photographers Make?
Interested in knowing the average salary of a photographer? Well the answer to such a questions is always a little more complex and therefore requires a little thought before a solid number is able to be given. First of all, it should be noted that there is a wide discrepancy between the earnings of photographers. Some make very little money, others spend more money than they make, while still others make decent livings, some of whom even make upwards of $100,000 a year. However, according to statistics the average photographer makes between $14,000 and $54,748 with the median falling somewhere in between those two numbers. If you want to be a photographer who makes more money than average you'll...
You've studied all the various camera settings and by now you've learned all about the difference between shutter speed and f-stop. Thanks to your studies of lighting patterns, the difference between butterfly and split lighting is an obvious no brainer... Now, it's time to consider the backdrop. In my experience, having over 6000 professional sessions under my belt, MOST people prefer to have a natural setting rather than a formal backdrop. For example... If you're shooting Indoors - possibilities may include posing your subjects on the floor around the fireplace, (always have a fire burning or it appears as nothing but a black hole in the final print), or they could be posed on and around their...
The camera world is all about comparisons. If you look at user forums, you will see that each camera is compared to every other camera that has similar features. And of course, the Canon - Nikon debate is at the top of many of these arguments.. er.. comparisons. However, with this writing, we will take a peek at some similarities and/or differences to compare the Canon Rebel T2i vs the Nikon D90, since the Nikon also boasts having video capabilities, as does the Canon model. At the top of everyone's list is the sensor size. In this case we...

History of the Camera
Early cameras of the 16th and 17th century were able to project images onto paper or glass but the study of capturing, processing and printing the images took many more years. Up until the 17th century, scientists believed that light was composed basically of the 'white' that is perceived by the human eye. It took the research done by famous physicist Isaac Newton to discover that light is actually composed of a spectrum of colors. While he made a big contribution to the study of optics (that is at the core of camera advances) with this discovery, Newton did not actually have anything to do with camera development per se. The early camera that first became a phenomenon was a little more than a...

Advantages Of RAW Over JPEG
Digital photography is a very interesting hobby. On highend digital cameras, the user has the choice to use either JPEG or RAW as a digital output image format. This is because this format fulfill the same role as film negatives in traditional chemical photography. The Importance of Backing Up Your Photos
My photos are very important to me. Everything I shoot I keep, as long as it's exposed and vaguely in focus then it stays. I still have all my college negatives and every digital shot taken in the last four years. That being said, three times since the 'Switch' to digital I've had hard drive failure. Granted the amount I've abused them over the years and I would expect a dud here or there but as a professional this is something I cant have with my work. Out of everything I need my work station to be resilient and stable and for my shots to be there when needed. The first time I had a hard drive fail, I lost about 300GB (about 15000 raw files from a modern DSLR) from a widely known HD manufacturer...

Capturing special moments with the people dear to you is one of the benefits of having a camera at your side. However, the enjoyment does not end with that since more people began interested in controlling the properties of the pictures so that they would be able to get better pictures. Having a point and shoot camera handy may be an easy choice of taking pictures. However if you get more interested in photography and you may want to improve the quality of your pictures, having an SLR digital camera may be a better choice. The next level in photography to be more creative is to control the settings of the pictures. With the improvements in the cameras that are available and even better printing...

Well framing photos is really simple and you don't need to pay an extravagant sum to have someone else do it for you! But, equally, you don't want to ruin all your good work in producing the picture up to this point by displaying it badly. Here are some top tips and common pitfalls: What are the main bits and pieces you'll need? 1. The mounting / backing board (rigid backing board, usually made from wood pulp or cotton fibre) 2. Choosing the Best SLR Camera For Beginners
Finding the best SLR camera for a beginner can be a challenge. Photography is a fantastic hobby and is one that anyone can take part in. With even a basic camera, you can take photographs you would display with pride. Photography can be for personal enjoyment or can be turned into a profession. Most people take pictures, even more now that cell phones have cameras. Not as many go beyond seasonal or vacation photography, though. Those that do, however, find that a point-and-shoot camera just does not give them the flexibility to capture photos exactly like they want. But they discover the number of choices in the SLR market can be overwhelming. When choosing your first SLR camera, digital is the way...
A digital camera can be a terrific way to record and remember the wonderful moments you experience throughout your life. Unfortunately, it can be easy to accidentally delete a picture or group of photos you have taken. The good news is once you have deleted them from your camera, you can still recover deleted pics in most cases. Your digital camera stores pictures in separate files on the memory card that is inside. There are a number of different memory cards including SD, CF, Memory Stick, and MMC Card to name a few. While there are several different brands, sizes, and models of memory cards, they all act like a floppy disc or hard drive to your camera. After deleted a picture or multiple pictures...

Size, shape and clarity are all factors which are criticised and discussed, with all the other girls looking on with a combination of happiness, envy and bitterness regarding this stunning item of diamond jewellery. It is not just the actual sight of...
What Makes the Canon EOS 450D Rebel Xsi So...
I acknowledge that I am a fan of Canon cameras and the EOS Digital Rebel line has always been a personal favorite. The Rebel Xsi performs puts forth a most professional performance at a reasonable price, and is sure to please both the budding amateur and professional photographer alike. Many bought the EOS XTi (400D) for so many years, that Canon was prompted to introducing the next evolution in this lineup: EOS XSi (450D). In this new model, Canon no longer uses "Digital" in the naming of the camera, calling it simply the EOS Rebel XSi or the EOS 450D. Among the improvements include a new image processor, DIGIC III (which uses the same 1D Mark III), which provides a digital to analog conversion of...
A Brief History Of Nikon SLR Lenses
If you've never handled a film SLR camera, a local camera shop is the best place to begin your shopping. The way a camera feels in your hands is more important than the brand name. It launched its first camera in 1948 and Nikon M was introduced in 1949 which was well accepted by the market. Nikon came up with its 35 mm in 1950 which was considered to be the best Nikon cameras available at that time...

The discomfort caused by the food cravings and withdrawals is so bad that many people fail when attempting to eat less food or eat healthier food. Five Surprising Ways to Keep Your Heart Healthy
There are many things that can lead to heart disease, i.e. high cholesterol, high blood pressure, etc. But there are also some relatively unknown things that can contribute to heart disease. Here is a list of those troublemakers and ways that you can fight to avoid them. 1. Sleep Deprivation - Sleep deprivation can increase blood pressure, disrupt blood sugar control and increase the production of damaging stress hormones. According to a Cornell University research study, getting less than six hours of sleep each night can increase your risk of heart disease by 39%. To ensure sound sleep, crank down the thermostat to between 60 degrees and 65 degrees. Most people sleep longer and sounder when the...
Colors change over time. This phenomenon proves to be true in countless things. As children grow up, their hair appearance changes. As the seasons change, the shades of the grass and trees transform. When you bought those bananas the other day, you didn't expect them to stay yellow forever did you? Yes, they change to brown if left uneaten. There are a million things that change shades and there are so many variables such as light, time of day and positioning that affect the colors that we see. Perceptions can affect color as well. Red to someone at one instance can look bright and cheery and to somebody else it can appear aggressive or warlike. With the presence of other colored objects, color...

Meeting a Significant Other's Family
The first time you meet your significant other's family can be awkward and intimidating for both sides, but if handled with common sense, it does not have to be painful. A little planning in advance can be very rewarding. - Do your homework. Ask your significant other what to expect. Ask him/her to describe who will be there and to describe some of each person's personality and characteristics. Ask what topics of conversation are safe and which ones are taboo in the group you are about to meet. You don't want to stir up any controversy on your first meeting. - Ask what is expected of you. Are you going to be expected to mingle with all the relatives for the entire visit, or are you going to be...
Five Unusual Uses For Ice Cubes
Ice cubes are merely frozen lumps of liquid. Most of the time we use ice cubes to cool off our drinks. But did you know that there are other uses for ice cubes? We're going to explore a few of them. 1. Water hanging plants. If you have a few potted plants hanging on your patio or back porch, watering them can be a bit tricky. To simplify the task, just drop a half dozen of ice cubes onto the surface of the soil daily. Because the ice melts slowly, the soil has time to absorb the moisture as needed, without the risk of messy overflow. 2. Revive your garbage disposal. If your garbage disposal has been sluggish lately or your sink drain has been getting clogged more than usual, your garbage disposal...
What Are the Main Features of a Digital SLR...
A dSLR can be very tricky at first; this is why it is important to learn all the ins and outs of your digital SLR camera. There are many features that will become a great benefit to you as you begin shooting. DSLR cameras are quite different from your typical "cell phone" camera, but they do share a lot with the old-fashioned film cameras. They have such a strong correlation; I will list a few to be brief: 1. A Lens - This usually is made out of plastic, glass, or ceramic. This is the part of the camera that focuses the light on to the sensor/medium. 2. Viewfinder - This lets you see what your camera sees. This gives you the most control and gives you the most accurate shots as you know what the...
In first actual photograph originated in the year 1825. Joseph Niepce, who was French, developed the first photograph. The first photographs were of a plate made of pewter, which in using some other materials could be used to print pictures with ink. As time progressed he was also responsible for improving on the process. Many people who also toyed with photographs and the process of making them, added to the improvement of how a photograph was made.
